Law Enforcement

This department is lead by Deputy Chief Paul J. DiCapo. He currently supervises approximately 50 deputies. The Uniform Department is comprised of many different sections. These sections include Patrol, and Search & Rescue.
Paul J. DiCapo is a lifelong resident of St. Landry parish. He attended Melville High School in Melville where he resided until 1982. Paul went to work for the St Landry Parish Sheriff's Office in March of 1984. He worked as a patrolman until he was reassigned as Chief Investigator for the St Landry Parish District Attorney's office in April of 1987. In October of 1990 he was employed by the St. Landry parish District Attorney's office where he continued as Chief Investigator. In November 2006, Paul came back to work for the Sheriff's Department.
Patrol: The patrol section is responsible for responding to all complaints that come into the St Landry Parish Sheriff's Department, patrolling parish roads, and conducting security checks on businesses both during operation and after hours, as well as security checks at residents. The main office as well as the parish's four substations have patrolmen assigned 24/7.
Search & Rescue: Conduct search and rescue for a variety of things, including, but not limited to: missing persons/children, discarded evidence by suspect, drown victims etc. This services is also offered to surrounding jurisdictions.
