He is a certified instructor in Firearms, Defensive Tactics, Radar, Laser Radar, Standardized Field Sobriety, Taser and Aerosol Projector.  Along with the eight instructor certifications, he holds 13 other certifications from Grade Crossing Collision Investigator, Field Tactical Police Operations, to Fire Investigator.  Thibodeaux also serves as the accident re-constructionist involving fatal and train crashes and is our SWAT Commander.

Our Deputies are mandated to attend monthly classes in Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, Legal Update, First Aid and CPR, Narcotic Detection and Identification, Stress Management, Defensive Tactics, Firearm Qualifications and many other courses all designed to train sheriff's deputies to become some of the best trained officers and to better serve and protect the public.

Not only does the training section instruct our deputies but many other departments statewide.  The section assists smaller departments in many aspects of law enforcement including firearms, defensive tactics, and pepper spray.  Thibodeaux is also an instructor at the St. Martin Training Academy for police cadets going through the police academy.

Our training section also instructs civilians in many areas like Operation Life Saver, Self Defense classes and many other issues, all classes are free of charge.  The St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office is proud to have Thibodeaux on staff; Thibodeaux is the only Self Defense instructor that is recognized by the National Blackbelt League and the Sport Karate International League as the 2003 World Champion in Self Defense.  The Women's Self Defense class entails awareness and street survival skills which ends with the participants fighting a padded aggressor.  This makes the course second to none and has the participants using the skills taught to them in the class in real life scenarios.  The free course is taught in our area schools, civic originations, and church groups.  Over 2,000 teen to adult women statewide have gone through the class.
