Corrections

Deputy Chief Austin Nacoste is heading up Corrections for the St Landry Parish Sheriff's Department. He currently supervises approximately 55 employees. Sections under corrections are AFIS, Jail, Kitchen, VA Transport and District Court Bailiffs.
Austin Nacoste is a native and lifetime resident of St Landry Parish. He attended public schools of St Landry Parish and received a B.A. degree in Sociology from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now University of Louisiana @ Lafayette) in May 1975. He was employed by the Louisiana Department of Social Services from June 1975 to November 1978. He was then employed by the Louisiana State Police from November 1978 until his retirement in September 2004. During his 26+ years with the State Police, Austin worked in uniform patrol, the gaming section and the Narcotics unit. Since his retirement with the Louisiana State Police, Austin was employed by SMILE Community Action Agency as an equal opportunity officer and also worked as a bailiff in the Federal Court System.
AFIS: Automated Fingerprint Identification System - This unit Books and processes all inmates that come in to the St Landry Parish Jail.
Jail: Correctional officers monitor all inmates as well as transport inmates when transferred to other facilities or to court whenever needed.
Kitchen Staff: The kitchen at the St Landry Parish Jail prepared three meals a day for all inmates incarcerated at the jail.
VA Transport: The St Landry Parish Jail has a van that transport veterans to the VA Hospital in Alexandria Louisiana on a daily basis.
District Court Bailiffs: Each division of the St Landry District Court is assigned a Bailiff that is responsible for assisting the Judge keep order in the court as well as other assigned duties by the court.
