Bio

Chief Hilman Popillion has extensive law enforcement experience and worked his way up from Road Trooper to Major with the Louisiana State Police.  His training and qualifications can be summed up as follows:

• Over 30 years of Law Enforcement Experience as a Louisiana State Trooper.
• Graduate of UL Lafayette with a Bachelors Degree.
• Military Veteran with Combat Training from the Vietnam Era.

Dedicated professional accountable for staffing, budgeting, institution of policies and procedures, and overall crime prevention.  Specialized training in motor vehicle accidents, surveillance, investigations, weapons of mass destructions, and hazmat incidents.  Excellent communication, interrogation, interpersonal, and presentation skills.  He is an outstanding leader with a fair attitude and a reputation for honesty, loyalty, and integrity.  Strong knowledge of police and security procedures including:

• Budgeting and Administration
• Evidence Collection and Protection
• Security and Emergency Response
• Investigative and Search Procedures

His experiences and personal qualities ensures that the St Landry Parish Sheriff's Department is the best that it can be for our citizens.  He is a life long resident of St Landry Parish and has raised his family here.  He enthusiastically looks forward to working for the Citizens of St Landry Parish and is honored to be working for a Sheriff's Department that all citizens can be proud of.
