As Chief Law Enforcement Officer of St. Landry Parish, Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz is also the Ex-Officio Tax Collector.  The day-to-day responsibilities of the Tax Department fall to the Chief Deputy Tax Collector and the Chief Financial Officer. 

The Tax Department collects property taxes for property owners of St. Landry Parish that are set by the Parish Tax Assessor.  Monthly distributions of the collections are made to the appropriate taxing bodies. 

Payments will not be accepted after 4:30 p.m.  Taxes are due by December 31.


In Person:
The Tax Department is located in the St. Landry Parish Courthouse, 118 S. Court Street, Suite 121.  Acceptable forms of payment are cash, check, or money orders.  Checks and money orders must be made payable to St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.  To expedite the process, please bring the tax notice stub or assessment number.

By Mail:
Payments need to be addressed to St. Landry Parish Sheriff, ATTN: Tax Department, P.O. Box 1029, Opelousas, LA  70571.  Acceptable forms of payment are checks or money orders payable to St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.  Please include the return stub with payment and the assessment number on the check or money order to insure proper posting.  Two weeks after mailing, please call and verify that payment was received and posted.
