The Civil Department is responsible for serving non-criminal court papers in St. Landry Parish. This includes processing all writs, executing judgments, warrants, seizure and sale, subpoenas, garnishments, and other documents ordered by the court system. Sheriff’s Sales are conducted on Monday’s at 10:00 a.m. for movables and on Wednesday’s at 10:00 a.m. for real estate in the lobby of the St. Landry Parish Courthouse, as advertised. Sheriff sales for movables are advertised on Wednesday’s (twelve days prior to the date of sale) in the legal section of the Daily World. Sheriff sales for real estate are advertised on a Friday at least thirty days prior to the date of sale and again on the Sunday preceding the date of sale in the legal section of the Daily World. All payments must be made the day of the sale by 2:00 p.m. Acceptable forms of payment are personal check, certified funds, or cash. No credit cards or electronic funds are accepted. The Civil Department is located in the St. Landry Parish Courthouse, 118 S. Court Street, Suite 121. The sales list available on the website is for informational purposes only and does not include withdrawals or cancellations. We do not warrant the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of this information. Individuals who plan to attend a Sheriff’s Sale with the intent of purchasing a property are advised to call to confirm a sale prior to the event. When requesting information, please provide the defendant in the suit, a case number, or a physical address of the property.
