Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz Kops & Kids Outdoor Sporting Activities group grants once-in-a-lifetime hunting and fishing experiences to children 9-13 years of age. Kops & Kids singular purpose is to assist in realizing there are alternatives to stealing and dealing and those alternatives are hunting and fishing. In the longer term, the benefits will include breaking the successions of interactions with juvenile and adult justice systems. Youths will discover there are alternatives to drugs and crime by interacting with law-enforcement officials.

On each trip the children and the Sheriff staff and deputies that will accompany them are surrounded by outdoors-minded people who understand that these children “probably have never been on a hunting, fishing or camping trip before”.

Deputies, sponsors and volunteers often become their best friends, and remain a part of their lives.

Our policy restricts trips to “hunting, fishing and camping experiences” and “outdoor activities.”

Are there any “minimum ages” on camping weekends?

Yes, we do have certain limitations, based upon a combination of laws and common sense. The most important factor is that we must match the child‟s physical and emotional maturity with the experiences. In general, children must be at least 9 years old to fish and hunt.

Are these hunting/fishing and camping trips done in groups or individually?

We do everything as a group. Kops & Kids experiences will focus on a single child and his/her personal life experiences if and when necessary. The nature of our approach is highly detailed and complex. Such a degree of interpersonal interaction will be conducted with a child that cannot function well in a group setting.

What kind of costs does a family incur of a hunting/fishing and camping weekend?

Families incur NO expense. All expenses are fully covered including travel, meals, lodging, licenses and fees. Our objective is to create a memorable outdoor experience for both the child and family that is not clouded by financial considerations.

What are your sources of funding?

Kops & Kids finances its work through individual contributions, corporate donations, cook-off fund raisers, and outdoor enthusiasts.

Is my contribution tax deductible?

Yes. Kops & Kids Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, working in cooperation with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff Department. All contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. Our financial statements are audited annually.
